Best of both entry options are always represented in the Cambridge Guide to Making Entries by a combination of the AS components, the A2 components and multiple carry forward components.
When a Best of both option is selected, we will see what previous sittings the candidate had within the last 13 months and whether they sat the AS components in the current series or not. Where there is a valid set of AS marks that could contribute towards their A level result, these are used – in the case of multiple sets of AS marks being available, we would select the set of marks that produces the highest A Level result.
Depending on their previous sittings, a candidate entering in the June series may have an AS mark that could be carried forward from either the previous June or previous November series or both. This means, if they do not attend one or more of the AS components in the current June series, our system would automatically identify that the only route for them to receive a result would be by carrying forward their previous AS mark and use that mark in combination with the marks achieved for the A2 components sat in the current June series for an A Level result.
However, if the candidate does not have a valid AS mark that could be carried forward from the previous 13 month period and then does not attend one or both AS components in the current June series, they would not be eligible for a result because they would not have completed all components included in their entry option and could not achieve an A Level outcome by carrying forward an AS mark either.
