What kind of teacher should teach this?
Global Perspectives is about developing skills that are found in every subject. Every good teacher understands the value of the skills in their lessons. Plagiarism and academic honesty? The research skill in Global Perspectives and is essential whatever lesson you are in. Evaluating sources and communicating ideas are just as important in science as in geography or English. There are endless links between skills and subjects.
Global Perspectives teachers:
- Use a range of active learning approaches rather than lecture or broadcast information.
- Support and guide learners, commenting on where they are doing well and what they need to do next to further develop the skill.
- Do not tell learners what they need to do.
- Plan lessons and reflect on what went well and what can be improved.
How many Global Perspectives teachers do we need?
We recommend more than one Global Perspectives teacher. Firstly, it is to deliver and implement a new subject with support. Secondly, Global Perspectives is an interdisciplinary subject and encourages collaboration across subjects and cross-curriculum links.
Schools tell us that their teachers enjoy the opportunity to work together, are more creative in their lesson planning, and teaching is more coordinated. If several teachers are involved in planning and delivery, there is continuity when colleagues move on to other roles.
We recommend that one teacher takes on a coordination role. This could be at school level or year group level depending on the size of the school and their implementation of the programme.
All teachers should have an awareness of Global Perspectives so they can make links with the subject(s) they teach. This helps learners to see the value of the skills they are developing in every lesson.
We strongly recommend that school leaders share their expectations for Global Perspectives in terms of learning and the impact on teachers' workload.
Do you offer any teacher training? My teachers are not trained to deliver a programme like this.
Yes, training for Global Perspectives is available to book from our events and training calendar. Face-to-face training and online are available.
All the resources you need are available on the Primary support site that contains lots of useful information.
