We recommend more than one Global Perspectives teacher. Firstly, it is easier to deliver and implement a new subject with support. Secondly, Global Perspectives is an interdisciplinary subject and encourages collaboration across subjects and cross-curricular links.
Schools tell us that their teachers enjoy the opportunity to work together, are more creative in their lesson planning, and teaching is more coordinated. If several teachers are involved in planning and delivery, there is continuity when colleagues move on to other roles.
We recommend that one teacher takes on a coordination role. This could be at school level or year group level depending on the size of the school and the approach to implementation.
All teachers should have an awareness of Global Perspectives so they can make links with the subject(s) they teach. This helps learners to see the value of the skills they are developing in every lesson.
We strongly recommend that school leaders share their expectations for Global Perspectives in terms of learning and the impact on teachers’ workload.
