Who are the Checkpoint English (E1L) and English as a Second Language (E2L) tests for?

English (E1L) tests are for learners whose first language is English or those who are second-language English speakers and who are strong enough to be considered fluent English speakers. They probably use English every day at school and outside school too, for example, with their families and friends.

English as a Second Language (E2L) tests are for learners who are learning English and are typically between ‘elementary’ and ‘upper-intermediate’ level. They probably only use English at school. They may want to improve their knowledge of the language so that they can use it to study other subjects, like Maths or Science.
