Are graphic novels permissible for the coursework component?

Whilst there are many fine and noteworthy graphic novels, we require candidates to have studied traditional novels for their coursework, as it is the candidate’s ability to decode a text to understand the subtleties and nuances which is the key – the addition of extra information in the form of graphics might therefore provide some candidates with an advantage.
