What are the differences between Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Digital Literacy and ICT Starters? Should schools teach both?

There is some overlap between the two subjects, for example word processors, image manipulation, presentation software and internet searches, but there is unique material in both. Coding is covered only in ICT Starters.

Each subject can be used to complement the other, for example:

• Some of the ideas from Digital Literacy can be used to support teaching on safety and wellbeing, and understanding more about the changes digital technologies are having on society.
• Modules from Cambridge ICT Starters can be used to:
  • formally assess attainment
  • support teaching on programming, databases, spreadsheets and networks.
