Will my students receive the ‘Notes for use in qualitative analysis’ in their exam papers?

The ‘Notes for use in qualitative analysis’ are provided in the Practical Test and Alternative to Practical from 2025 onwards. This will allow students to concentrate on demonstrating their practical skills and not information recall on these papers.

However, the ‘Notes for use in qualitative analysis’ are not provided in the theory papers or the multiple-choice papers. Candidates will need to be able to describe the tests for the identification of ions and gases as detailed in section C12.5 of the syllabus. This can be assessed on the theory papers and the multiple-choice papers.
