We don’t approve texts. It is entirely up to the teacher to guide the candidates in their choice of text as long as they meet the criteria set out in the syllabus.
The play must be in English or an English translation from another language and it must be performed in English. It should be sufficiently challenging, published with an ISBN number and have been performed professionally. It must not be published only online, or intended as classroom drama, or material intended solely for youth theatre. Candidates may not use any texts set for study for Component 1.
We have only placed restrictions on materials intended solely for youth theatre. This does not exclude material that contain some selections for young artists.
As a general comment about the selection of materials for the syllabus, teachers/centres are responsible for selecting suitable topics and subject contexts, resources and examples to support their learners’ study. These should be appropriate for the learners’ age, cultural background and learning context as well as complying with their school policies and local legal requirements.
