While it is not ideal for learners to study the same text for two different qualifications, there is no specific restriction which stops learners from doing so. In this situation, teachers and learners should take care to avoid any risks which may arise.
For instance, the Assessment Objectives for AS & A Level Drama will be different from AS & A Level Literature in English. Learners must ensure that their work for each syllabus is appropriate to the Assessment Objectives and that they do not become confused.
Similarly, it might be argued that learners typically benefit from a broader learning experience, and therefore choosing the same text for two syllabuses limits that breadth. The 9695 teacher may therefore consider that it is in their learners’ best interests to study an alternative text to that which they are studying for AS & A Level Drama. Ultimately, the decision is the teacher’s. They know their learners best and should aim to provide the richest learning experience for them.
