In general, non-assessed performers may be used:
- Where there is only one candidate taking the course in order to allow them to do so
- Where a candidate has been left alone taking the course after other candidates have withdrawn
Non-assessed performers may not be used to add to or enhance the work of groups of assessed candidates.
If non-assessed candidates are used they should be:
- Another student of equivalent age and experience in drama. This could be a drama student from a year above or below the candidate, or another student of the same year interested in performing drama but not actually taking the course
- Involved in the devising process on an equal basis without taking a leading or dominant role in
developing the material - Monitored by the teacher.
In component 2:
- The non-assessed performer should participate fully in the devising process although the assessed candidate should select the stimulus to be used and provide the lead
- The non-assessed performer should take a less prominent role as far as possible in the devised and scripted pieces, while still allowing for effective interaction with the assessed candidate
- The assessed candidate should select the play for the scripted performance guided by the teacher.
In component 3:
- The non-assessed performer must be fully aware of the work of the chosen practitioner, tradition or style and contribute to the devising process, although the assessed candidate should provide the lead
- The non-assessed performer should take a less prominent role as far as possible in the group devised piece, while still allowing for effective interaction with the assessed performer.
In both components the non-assessed performer should participate fully in the rehearsal process and commit to giving a performance of comparable quality as far as possible, so as not to undermine the performance by the assessed candidate. In assessing the work, the teacher should focus only on the contribution and achievement of the assessed candidate.
