Speaking: Can students make notes during the preparation time for the speaking exam?

From 2028, candidates will be able to make notes during the preparation period under the supervision of an invigilator. 

Candidates will be given the role play card to study and prepare. Whilst they can make notes on a spare blank sheet, they must not write on the role play. 

You must collect any notes that the candidate has made before the speaking test starts. The candidate must not have access to them during the speaking test. The notes must be retained by the teacher/examiner and then stored securely at the centre until after certificates have been issued.

For the 2026 and 2027 series, candidate are not permitted to make notes.
