How can I be sure my learners’ coursework will be acceptable to the external moderator?

There is much information available on the setting, teaching and marking of coursework in the Coursework Handbook for IGCSE History, which is available on the School Support Hub. There is also information on setting coursework titles in recent past examination Examiner Reports, also available on the School Support Hub. Some of the reports contain examples of the sorts of coursework titles that worked well, and there is also a list of example questions in the 2024-2026 syllabus and the Coursework Handbook.

We cannot guarantee that the level of marks awarded in any individual school will be exactly in line with the marks awarded in another school. Therefore, each year the coursework marks of some schools have to be adjusted, up or down, as a result of external moderation. If this happens, reasons are given by the moderator in a report sent to the school.

All teachers should read the Coursework Handbook before starting on coursework.   Lastly, teachers may also apply for professional development courses. Training on Coursework modules will be part of the Introduction and Focus on Assessment courses, wherever applicable. For more information about training, please click here.
