Unfortunately, past papers would never have questions on the set works for subsequent years. While there is a specimen paper, this does not get updated with new Section B3 or Section D for each year. Teachers would usually prepare mock exams in the same style as past papers, using an extract of the set work and posing questions in a similar style, asking about aspects heard, such as harmony or rhythmic effect at certain bars, or what happens next in the movement, or a transposing question, or background knowledge of the set work. A similar balance of questions between what is heard, and background knowledge of the world focus is needed for Section B3.
In the revised syllabus from 2026, there will not be annually changing set works or world focus so past papers and the specimen paper will then be relevant for any mock exams.
