IGCSE Biology: I am in the middle of setting up the practical examination, and I am puzzled by the Confidential Instructions. What should I do?

You should attempt to prepare the examination using the Confidential Instructions, which are issued to schools in confidence well in advance of the examination. These instructions tell you all you should need to know about the apparatus requirements, how the apparatus is to be arranged, and what it will be used for. If you have a problem which cannot be resolved using the Confidential Instructions, please contact us at

Under no circumstances are you allowed to have access to the question papers before the examination, and these will be securely locked away in a place of high security. Details of what is, and what is not, permitted are given in the Cambridge Handbook.
